I am a sports fan from California, who has been a following NASCAR for over 25 years. I try to attend as many races a year as I can, and I call Toyota speedway of Irwindale my second home. I enjoy writing about the sport, and have written over 1000 articles which most of them can be found at NASCAR.com. I've had my articles appear on the front page at NASCAR.com, along with having them linked to USA TODAY.com, Yardbarker.com, Ask.com, CBS Sports.com, L.A. Examiner.com,...

angie88 I've been planning a trip up there, now it will be sooner rather than later. Great publicity for the HOF.

frevr3fan Why should Johnson give any driver a thank you
note? If Ambrose wasn't smart enough to take
matters into his own hands, he deserved what
happened. All Johnson did was capitalize on his
mistake, the same thing with Burton.
Those wins are far from gifts, and Johnson had
the better car at Infineon. Maybe its time that
more fans realize just how good this team really
is, and start giving them the respect they
deserve.

IpModerator The two gentlemen above are spot on.
At this point in NASCAR's history, the #48
team is the best that there is, quite possibly
the best team in total that there's ever
been.
From the guy who sweeps the
floors, straight on up to the guy behind the
wheel.
They do not receive gifts,
they put themselves in position to win and then
seize opportunity when it arises.
When those opportunities don't arise
they'll just flat beat you through total team
effort.
I for one feel privileged to
be able to witness the history they're
creating.
Gifts?
Those
are given for birthdays, Christmas and other
occasions.
Wins?
Those
you earn.

Jessica10 I'm sure it's hard to find a good, reliable driver with the experience he wants and can count on for the full time position. You can't just have a successful business and partnership picking someone up without looking at the facts that are important to him and his needs. He has to much pressure and stress from everything. It's really amazing how many people admire him and stand by him no matter what happens. I'm sure it makes things more relaxed on his part to really make the right choice when he does get that full-time person. He knows what he wants and if he has to wait to get it, it's better than settling for less. I don't agree with comparing Woods and Dale. It's a huge difference with a marriage with a woman and a marriage with a job. Everyone knows that's a BIG difference, although it was an eye opener to his career at this time and the changes that are being made. It's a matter of time things will fall together and it'll be an old subject.

Mustang5 ...perhaps, NNS and Junior needs a service like
Match.com for selecting a driver! List all your
likes, wants, and needs, then make your choice.
Unfortunately, no such service exists in
NASCAR.
Brad Kesolowski was the
best thing going for JRM, but his needing to jump
into the Sprint Series changed that
relationship real fast.
DEI (now
EGR) hasn't come through with any support for
Jeffrey Earnhardt, yet there hasn't been any
real explanation as to why Junior hasn't
offered him a ride. I'd say quit waffling and
give the guy a chance....some have said he's
pretty good but needs a break....gee, there was
another Earnhardt back in the late 70's looking
for the very same chance!
Currently, JRMs round-robin of racing for
drivers isn't producing anything but pure
inconsistency and chaos. It has to be killing
the morale of the CC's, pit crew, and supporting
staff with having to deal with the constant
turn-overs and trying to deal with varying
personalities.
Buck up, make a
choice, and then pour as much support as you can
into mentoring and coaching a driver to become a
champion...STOP changing drivers out and
focus on development

turnleftguy While I love a good plate race, the problem is the are a real crap shoot. I would hate to see a real championship battle ruined in a couple of big wrecks and a third runner back into a title. That would really bite. I DO like the idea of a road race in the Chase.
The first few years of the Chase saw more drivers mathematically able to win the title -- the last few have seen only two teams battling at the end. So, kind of like the old days before the Chase. Some seasons are won by 15 points, some by 150, some by 250 no matter what the format. Winning counts but not for everything. Newman won 8 races in 2003 but did not win the title. Kyle Busch won 8 in 08 and melted down in the Chase finishing 10th. He had a 208 point lead over Edwards and 369 over Johnson before Richmond. It should have been him racing Edwards for the title, not Johnson.

IpModerator @leftturnguy - I guess that my point in placing the two plate races at the end of my fantasy Chase tracks was that if drama is what NASCAR wants to create in The Chase, then what better way?
A crap shoot? Yes.
High drama? You bet.
If NASCAR wants to name a true season champion without creating any fabricated drama then ditch The Chase altogether and let the chips, and points, fall where they may.
I fully realize that neither scenario would, or even could, play out in NASCAR's world, but if it's drama they want, then I can't think of a better way.
